The venerable uplight, a most versatile effect. Let's take a look at some of the options, and discuss what it is and what it isn't.
First, an uplight is not a type of light fixture, but a "position." That is, an uplight is positioned on or near the floor, and pointed up, mostly along a wall or column. Any type of light fixture can be used, with varying success, as an uplight.
Below are some of the most popular.

The early uplights were conventional PAR cans, first used in concerts, theater, etc. The color is selected by a gel film.  At left is "Apollo Gold," which we often use when a client requests a "candle" glow.

Not only is it possible to change the color of the light, but to also change the beam width or "spread." You can choose anything from a Very Narrow Spot (VNSP) to a Wide lamp, although these must changed at the shop. How do you choose the right beam spread? Just give us a call, and we'll recommend options based on your design.

LED uplights offer a number of benefits, but like every tool, they aren't right for every job. Where LED products excel is on ease of ability to change colors throughout an event. Some have internal programs which can be utilized, while others can be controlled via a controller.
We also offer an uplight system that can move and chase, creating a very immersive party experience. Coupled with other lighting effects we can provide, we'll create an environment like no other. Below is a video of our moving uplights.

One of our most requested items over the past year has been string lighting.  String lights create a festive, casual atmosphere at any event, while creating a soft glow from overhead.  Chicago Lighting Design offers a wide variety of string lighting, as well as paper lanterns to compliment any situation.

Cafe lights are are a larger bulb, nearly the size of standard household incandescent bulbs.  The bulbs are strung on a black wire.  These are available in either our Sign Bulb (center in photo to left) or our Globe bulb (shown at right in the photo to the left).  Chicago Lighting Design can hang these from existing attachment points or suspend these from stands we provide.  For additional information contact us at our or visit our order page.

A blast from the past! Our vintage lights are smaller, pear shaped bulbs (shown with a regular bulb for scale).  You may remember these from Christmas past.  These come on either a white or green wire.  Chicago Lighting Design can hang all of our lights in straight strands or randomly, depending on available attachment points.  For additional information contact us at our or visit our order page.

Fun Italian Lights are our smallest bulb.  Not only can we string these from place to place, but we can wrap them around trees, or bundle strings together for a richer look.  White wire compliments any decor.  For additional information contact us at our or visit our order page.

Chicago Lighting Design has a huge inventory of paper lanterns, in a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes.  We use powered bulbs instead of battery powered LEDs.  Our powered bulbs are brighter but can be dimmed.  For additional information contact us at our or visit our order page.

Ceiling Draping makes any space more dramatic.  Fabric available in a wide variety of colors, and can include optional lighting and/or paper lanterns.
